At the start of Keyquest 3, Bass Clef notation is introduced, and is subsequently used for the left hand of scales, for chord exercises (which illustrate how the use of inversions can help fluency), and there is at least one "piano style" piece in each Unit. Understanding chord symbols and playing fully "fingered" chords continues to be developed, with most major and minor triads and many seventh chords gradually introduced. A full Chord Glossary at the back of the book provides a ready reference resource.

The use of Harmony is progressively introduced, starting with an explanation of the auto-harmony feature and developing to a point where pupils are encouraged to analyse and incorporate their own harmony notes in the right hand.

Scales, arpeggios and pentatonics introduced in Keyquest 3 are in the keys of A, E, Bb majors, and Eb, F#, C#, G and C minors. A full breakdown of modal scales is also given, with D dorian and G mixolydian particularly highlighted and used in the pieces.

Swing rhythms are explained and featured in the pieces. Duets and ensemble pieces also continue to feature prominently. Revoicing and mixing the auto-accompaniment, the use of dual voices, voice effects, PA equipment and the recording facility on more advanced keyboards are all explained clearly and in detail.

Pieces included: Finger Waltz, Flags, Happiness, Silent Night, Lost, Aspirations, Someone's in the Kitchen, We Three Kings, Therefore I am, Dawn Chorus, Greensleeves, Scarborough Fair, Country Gardens, The Captains Hornpipe, The Can Can, Lagoon, One of the Band, Amazing Grace, Paradise Colours, Year of the Frog, Electro Energy & Finlandia.
